Industry Practicum Projects
The MMB program includes multiple industry practicum projects where students partner with real biotech, pharmaceutical, and life science companies to solve current business and technical challenges. These projects provide hands-on experience in areas such as product development, market analysis, regulatory strategy, and technology commercialization. Through this work, students gain practical industry insight and develop the cross-functional skills needed to succeed in the biotech field.
Fall 2025
Gilead Sciences, Inc.
My team partnered with Gilead Sciences, Inc. to conduct an in-depth analysis of emerging technologies relevant to their strategic interests. We have identified and evaluated a range of new innovations, assessing their technical readiness, validation status, feasibility, and potential opportunity for Gilead’s future initiatives. Our work will support informed decision-making by providing clear recommendations on high-impact technologies worth further exploration.

Spring 2026
ClearSens, Inc.
This practicum project was completed in partnership with ClearSens, an NC State–connected startup developing a wearable ultrasound platform designed for continuous physiological monitoring. The project explored how this technology could be applied in sports medicine to support performance optimization, injury prevention, and recovery tracking in athletes. Our team evaluated the opportunity through literature and patent research, competitor and adjacent technology analysis, customer discovery, and market assessment. The final goal was to determine whether sports monitoring is a strong commercial fit for ClearSens and identify where future AI integration could add value.
